Traveling to Amherst and FCRAO

To Amherst:

The most convenient airport to Amherst is Hartford,CT/Springfield,MA Bradley International Airport. After arriving at the airport, there is a limosine service which for $35, will take you to Amherst. You will need to call ahead to the limosine so that it will be waiting for you upon your arrival. Contact Valley Transporter at 413-549-1350. A less expensive (approximately $12) alternative is the Peter Pan Bus to Amherst. Of course, you can also rent a car at the airport.

If driving from the west or south, take Route 91 to the Route 9 Northampton/Amherst exit. Go east on Route 9 for 5 miles. You will see signs for the Amherst campus and the town of Amherst.

If driving from the east (Boston), take the Massachusetts Turnpike to Exit 8 (Palmer). At the toll booth, ask the operator for directions to Amherst. You will be provided with written directions which take you through scenic New England countryside.

Once you arrive in the vicinity of the campus, park at the Campus Center Parking Garage. See Campus Map for directions. We are located in the Lederle Graduate Research Center. A hideous building (17 stories of concrete facade) which must have been designed at the Josef Stalin School of Architecture so it is hard to miss.

To the FCRAO site:

From Amherst, the most direct way to the site is to go east on Main Street out of downtown Amherst. Travel on this road for approximately 8 miles until you come to the end of the road which intersects with Route 202. Take a left (North) on Route 202 and travel for 5 miles. When you see a sign on your right for Cooleyville Junction, take the dirt road just after the sign.
This will lead you to Gate 17 for which you will need a key.

From Boston, take Route 2 out of Boston for approxiamtely 50 miles. Take the Route 202 South exit (which is different than the Route 202 North exit). Travel 8 miles until you see the dirt road which just precedes the Cooleyville Junction sign on the left.
This will lead you to Gate 17 for which you will need a gate key.
