Course Overview
The four-credit course is an
astrophysics class for upper-level astronomy majors. The
goal of the course is twofold:
- To become
familiar with the observational facts about galaxies
- To
learn the physical principles that govern the structure, evolution and
formation of galaxies
The course will prepare you
to tackle standard graduate text books and research articles on galaxy
formation and evolution, one of the most important research fields in
modern astrophysics.
For details about the topics to be covered, look
at the course schedule.
Format
Course
material will be explored in lectures every week, in-class discussions,
readings from the text and references, homework, and exams (see Requirements and grades for more
details). You are encouraged to ask questions in class and during
office hours.
