Title: New Map of the Nearby Universe: The 2MASS Redshift Survey Abstract: Almost a decade and a half ago a project was proposed to map the nearby Universe in the near infrared. This project is now called 2MASS, the Two Micron All-Sky Survey, and the final photometric all-sky maps are about to be released. The 2MASS redshift survey has as its primary goals the measurement the $\Omega_{\bf Matter}$, and the detection of the mass concentrations responsible for our motion w.r.t. the Cosmic Microwave Background, basically to measure the distribution and quantity of Dark Matter in the local universe. The first phase of the 2MRS, a complete redshift survey of the brightest 25,000 galaxies, is nearly completed. The Near-IR properties of galaxies make our survey an ideal way map mass.
